December 2013 Recap

December brought Christmas, of course, and so much more! We celebrated Grandpa Charlie’s birthday with Grandma and with two of his favorite sweet treats (Butter Pecan ice cream and chocolate-covered pretzels).  The girls woke up thinking it would be really special to celebrate him since we “remember him in Heaven”. The girls’ dance team had their first game – but not at CHCA.  Instead, at halftime of a UC Bearcats game! They also had their CHCA PK-Kindergarten Christmas Program, during {Read More}

November 2013 Recap

Continuing the half-hearted recap of the end of our 2013… In November, we had a lot of fun! We all went on the 5K Step Out walk with families from Kyle’s work, in honor of a staff member’s daughter with diabetes.  The girls walked the whole time!  And because apparently that didn’t wear them out enough, we also took them ice skating for the first time.  You guys, I love skating.  But skating with 5-year-olds is so much harder! 🙂 {Read More}

Homecoming Extravaganza

This year, CHCA decided to try combining Homecoming activities with the Fall Festival.  It kind of remains to be seen whether it will work in future years, because this year was mostly a monsoon about halfway through the evening.  Before the floods began though, we did get to play some games! Dinner was at Abuelo’s instead of the school and we had to skip the football game, but everyone still had a great time.  Hopefully next year we’ll get to stay {Read More}

4 Months in 4 Minutes

So much has happened in the last several months, that most days when I sit down here I just stare at all the things I would have loved to have shared with you.  A few things are going to get their own entries, but in just a few minutes I’m going to catch you up on some of the less major events. Perhaps one of the biggest pieces of news is that we moved into a new house.  When our {Read More}

First Day of Kindergarten!

It’s official, folks – we have two beautiful, excited Kindergartners! Kindergarten | CHCA | Mrs. Kimberly Kane MEET KINDERGARTEN ELISE! This is how I write my name: I am 42.5 inches tall and weigh 40.5 pounds. My best friend’s name is Georgia. My favorite thing to play is Hide and Seek. My favorite color is rainbow. My favorite book is Secret of the Wings. My favorite TV show is Powerpuff Girls. My favorite food is ice cream. When I grow {Read More}

PJ Day!

The girls’ preschool class studied hibernation a little earlier this winter, so on the last day of their unit they all “hibernated” in their PJs at school and had an extra fun day!

CHCA Christmas Program and Daddy-Daughter Dance

While we’ve been singing the praises of Avery and Elise’s first year of school, there are two more events from 2012 especially worth sharing.  The first is their Preschool and Kindergarten Christmas Concert, which was so beautiful and entertaining.  The kids had all worked very hard all year in music, and were very prepared for their selection of songs.  I’ll have video for you whenever I get to that particular folder (sigh – soon?), but you’ll just have to take {Read More}

Classroom Helper and Holiday Parties

Every other Wednesday, I have the pleasure of going to the girls’ classroom for an hour or so as the classroom helper.  Most weeks I man one of the centers for their learning rotations, or occasionally I help with a paint project or something instead.  Almost every week, I get to go to chapel with the class, too! Some of my favorite days in the classroom, though, have been the two holiday parties thus far!  I’m the class photographer, which {Read More}

Adventure Bear

In Mrs. Dowling’s 4-year-old preschool class, the kids all look forward to their turn with a variety of take-home activities.  There is the “All About Me” suitcase, which they fill with items and pictures to share with the class.  There’s the Writing suitcase, where there are fun pencils and erasers and paper and letter cards and they get to write whatever they want for the week to practice their skills.  Today, Elise was the class weather reporter, after looking at {Read More}

CHCA Fall Festival

One of the many things we love about belonging (again) to the CHCA community is the family activities they have made a priority.  Since working at it as a high schooler, the Fall Festival has been one of my favorite such events.  When they began offering a few free tickets to alumni with children, it became one of the girls’ favorites, too, even before “the Eagle school” was their school.  This year was the first year with sweet little students {Read More}
